June Newsletter
Dear Parents,
What a wonderful
Serenade! It was great to see our
children’s musical and dance talents showcased and it was also nice to see your
smiling and proud faces in the audience.
June brings lots
of excitement as we ramp up for the end of our exciting school year! We have become impressive readers! We continue to develop our reading fluency by
reading familiar texts. We are practicing decoding strategies when coming to
new words and continuing to build our sight word knowledge to help know more
words by heart.
As writers we are
learning to write opinion and persuasive pieces. Don’t be surprised if your child gets even
better at convincing you to get them that special something!
In math we are working
on addition and subtraction stories.
Addition and subtraction are some of the main number operations in
mathematics. Simple addition and
subtraction and interpreting number sentences from number stories form the
basis to more complex math situations.
Students are learning to create math sentences from math “stories” and
write them using the symbols + and -. So
what was 6 and 4 make 10 becomes 6+4=10.
Over the summer vacation, I strongly encourage
you to continue to read to and with your child daily. The Flint Library will have its wonderful Summer
Reading Program. It’s a great way to
keep your child reading. I would also
recommend that your child practice handwriting and writing skills through
journal writing, counting both orally and in writing, and review the sight
words we have been working on all year.
Doing 1 or 2 of these activities each day over the summer will help keep
your child’s skills sharp.
It has been such a
pleasure working with you and your child this year. Thank you for supporting
your child with your time, energy and encouragement this year. As our kindergarten journey comes to a close,
I will hold the memories of this year dear to me. Enjoy your summer and please come back to say
hello next year!
All My Best,
Mrs. Newton
Classroom Policies:
Please remember to label all of your child’s belongings. This includes folders, backpacks, lunch boxes, coats, and hats.
Please place all notes, lunch money, milk money, and notices for the office in your child’s folder. It is much easier for them to hand in the papers if they are all located in the same place!
Fuller Meadow is using www.myschoolbucks.com lunch program. Please see the website for further information (www.middletonps.org) .
FYI: There will be multiple opportunities for parents to lend a helping hand throughout the school year. Whether you are in the classroom helping out the children, chosen as a chaperone for a field trip, or home helping me cutting and organizing, we love the extra support and help! As in most classrooms, there’s always something on the back burner waiting to be done!
Please make sure you refer to the Fuller Meadow School website and/or your student handbook for further information regarding school-wide policies.
Expanding Learning At Home:
Monthly Homework & Educational Websites
The monthly homework/family project for October will be sent home at the beginning of the month. Please highlight each activity your child completes, and return the calendar to school at the end of the month. The benefit of the monthly calendar homework is for your child to practice learned skills at home and at his/her own pace. Many of the homework “assignments” are hands-on and are fun to do! Enjoy spending time with your student and most importantly, make learning fun! J
The Kindergarten Team encourages you to expand your child’s learning experience at home as much as possible. The following educational websites are a fun way for you and your child to learn and explore together:
